I can't wait to find out who wrote my Exchange gift so that I can friend her and read All Her Things! I've been in a really low place for several weeks, and Joy Stick is one of the things that has pulled me out of it and made me feel more able to deal. Being able to deal, I've almost cleared my inbox today, which is a good thing coming from the respect-and-be-grateful-of-your-readers girl, yes? Yes! In any case, today's also been about napping, flisting, and soup-making, and as requested, here's what I put into the stock (which is currently simmering):

one roasted chicken carcass
one roasted chicken carcass with quarter meat and skin (breast meat reserved for soup)
one really big onion, quartered
four stalks of celery with tops
two large carrots, snapped in halves
four cloves of garlic, smashed with peel removed
a large chunk of ginger, peeled and cut in half
1/2 lb of shitaki mushrooms
2 dried bay leaves
about 20 black peppercorns
a six-inch long sprig of rosemary
three sprigs of thyme
several sprigs of parsley
enough water to cover it all

I will simmer it for six hours, drain the stock, allow the fat to rise in the fridge, skim most of it, and then pour the stock through cheesecloth into the soup pot, where it will finally see some salt (about 1/2 a teaspoon, and two tablespoons of lemon juice to brighten it up a bit) after it reduces some. I'll then make soup. The soup's vegetables will be roasted artichokes and potatoes, which I will most likely blend with the immersion blender before adding the chopped chicken, and I expect I'll add marjoram to the pot (and a few other herbs, depending upon how the soup tastes). I'm really looking forward to soup because it's been raining all day.

In other news, Albus loves Wegmans' seven-grain sourdough and keeps taking the bread off the counter and eating it in the night! I'm not happy about this; I love seven-grain sourdough (and Albus does not need that much fiber). *resolves to purchase bread box* He's doing well with the cats, though, and shares the couch with Barefoot and Zelda without incident now—unless one of the girls decides there should be an Incident. *snorts* Niamh's still not particularly sure of him, though, but that will change. Winter is coming, and the girls are already looking for the warmth of where the dog has been when he vacates his various sleeping spots. *twirls*

Finally, I'm taking a break from world news. I usually read several newspapers in the morning (thank you, Arts & Letters Daily), but I'm going to take a break from it because it keeps sending me to Cats in Sinks for a brain scrub, and too much scrubbing leads to unwanted brain soreness. That, and I'm so tired of reading up on politicians while wishing there were more public servants in the world. *is disgusted*

Crumb. I shouldn't end on a depressing note. Here, have a funny (NWS vid for unexpectedly clinical language about lady parts), care of Reddit! (Yes, you will want to wait about 26 seconds for things to get to the surreal funniness, and if you don't find the vid funny? *points to Cats in Sinks*)

Thanks for the link to Cats in Sinks! It's very soothing.

That's a soup base to cause the dead to rise. Wonderful.

You're welcome; I love those kitties. :D

And the stock smells so good right now!

love cats in sinks! Just- awe that is so cute!!! Did you see the Harry Potter sink, with a cat in it? How can anyone not like Cats In Sinks.

Politicans need term limits. That's all I have to say. Second rule, they only can spend X on campaigns. There needs to be a limit of powers that states they cannot pass any law that excludes the politicans. =)
That vid-- that's just bizzare-LOL

Yes! I would be v. happy with such a law.

I've never seen the HP cat in a sink; now I must click more! *g*

That stocks sounds yummah.

It reminds me of the magical mineral broth found here:

As the base for Thai it Up Chicken Soup, it is teh awesome.

And Joy Stick rawks - I have my suspicions as to the writer.

(disclaimer: I'm not right that often).

Mmm, that looks like a tasty site! Thanks for the link. :D

I've my suspicions, too, and I'm most likely also wrong—but I can't wait to find out! *twirls*

Until you get a bread box, you could use a large enough pot with a lid to save your bread from Albus. Despite being settled with you now, I wouldn't be surprised if the poor thing took any food left available to him after being a stray.

That's a good point, and also a good idea. Thank you. :)
