I thought it didn't come out till this weekend.

It was showing last night, and I loved it!

Sounds like you enjoyed it a little bit ;D

We couldn't really make the previews, but we already have our tickets booked for Sunday, when it will be my birthday :)

It also means I get to go somewhere I am treated like a paying patron rather than cattle, and is designed to accomodate disabilities of various kinds comfortably and in such a way that my needs are not likely to be inconvenient to myself or other patrons, dammit.

I loved it! I hope you do, too!

Huh, well, I'm glad someone is really excited about it. I'm going with friends tomorrow, and I'm happy about seeing them, but I feel like I could take or leave the movie itself.

ETA: I was actually pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it! (Although I don't know if I will like the arc that runs over all five movies.)

I'm seeing it a third time today; I want to pay more attention to Queenie's use of Legilimency, which is definitely not the same thing practiced in the HP books and movies, among other things. Of course, that will mean paying attention specifically to the magic instead of just to Queenie (who seems to fall along Molly lines: talented, nurturing, hot, and a good cook *snorts*).

I think I'll be interested in seeing the Grindelwald-related storyline, but I hope not at the expense of Newt. The creatures are truly fantastic in the movie, and I can't get enough of them!

I had the impression that Queenie couldn't necessarily turn the Legilimency OFF. Sort of like an empath. I thought that was why she mostly stayed home, and why she told Newt she couldn't help it. Your thoughts?

I agree with you, and I was surprised to find that she did go out to work considering how hard it seemed for her to turn off her ability. You'd think that someone at Ilvermorny would have helped her . . . .

Yes, agreed! And so then I wonder, if she worked at MACUSA, how she never picked up on our biggest spoiler of them all? Unless she was never around the higher-ups?
Nov. 21st, 2016 04:43 pm (UTC)
I think that has to be it; she was serving tea downstairs where Graves rarely if ever had occasion to go . . . until he did.

Oh! But where are MACUSA's defensive charms? Security seems awfully lax for a magical society.

Haha I thought that too--they just Alohomora'd everything!

Or kicked it in! *loves Jacob*

I was curious about that too. I wonder if it is down to cultural differences between the US and Britain (with the US seemingly forbidding relationships between wizards and no-majs, maybe it's an ability that has developed via the inbreeding of purebred genes). Or maybe since magical society is older and more established in Britain, British wizards have figured out a way to learn/teach Legilimency even if you don't have those innate abilities?

I was at Barnes & Noble today and they had multiple tables of HP and Fantastic Beasts stuff out ... I am, at least, excited that all the speculation and worldbuilding is back front and center!

I don't know, but those are interesting thoughts. I'm looking forward to more discussion on all things related to Fantastic Beasts. :D

Yay! I can't wait to get to a bookshop! *dances*

Got my ticket, going tomorrow.
