Loyalty (PG; Millicent, others; 100 words)

In lieu of the long, Millicent-centric fic that popped into my mind a while back, I wrote Loyal (PG; Millicent, others; 100 words): However broken, Millicent remains loyal.

Warlock was Millicent's three-legged, ill-tempered cat; he'd lost a leg to Monty.

"It isn't uncommon for the broken ones to turn violent."

Born a Squib, Monty's jealous reaction to the "spoilt" nine-year-old Millicent's birthday kitten had proved the last straw for the Bulstrodes, who'd summoned a Healer to remove their son.

At the time, Monty had scratched and bitten and yowled, and so had Millicent—but despite the adults' threats, she'd not let go of Warlock.

"And I won't let go of you now," she whispered to her growling boy, as she and the other Slytherins were banished from Hogwarts.

Is the last 'boy' her cat Warlock?

Whatever happened to her squib brother, Monty? It sounds like a sad story.

Yes.

My head canon is that the Healers took him away, no doubt to be raised somewhere else.

It felt like it wanted to be sad and long and incredibly detailed, so I quickly drabbled and closed the document. :P

Sometimes you have to purge yourself of something painful like this. Must be a great relief.

Posting it was a relief; it's been sitting in a folder for a long time, and I hate leaving things unposted (but it seemed too sad to post when I wrote it; actually, I delete loads of fic for similar reasons).

I'm glad you posted. I've read a number of one shot/drabble posts having to do with the various Slytherins over the years. They were usually sad.

Millicent is always surprising me; I wish I had more time to write about her.
